Learning German
Participating
- Everyone can learn German with us.
- All classes are free of charge. You do not have to pay anything.
- It does not matter which residency status you have.
- You have to be over the age of 18.
- We don't have so many spots available. Therefore, people who cannot easily attend other German courses are more likely to get a spot.

What is my learning level? Which class is the right one for me?
- Alphabetization: You learn to read and write the Latin alphabet.
- Alpha 1: You do not know the Latin alphabet at all.
- Alpha 2: You already know all the letters, but you can't yet read and write.
- Alpha 3: You can already read and write words, but only very slowly.
- A1.1: You can read and write the Latin alphabet. You do not yet speak German.
- A1.2: You speak a little German. You can say for example: "My name is...", "I live in...", "My telephone number is...", "I like to do...".
- A2.1: You speak German a bit better. For example, you can describe your flat or your room in simple words and you can say, what your profession is or what you did at the weekend.
- A2.2: You already speak German quite well. For example, you can talk about what you wanted to become when you were a child, describe a route or compare two cities.
- B1.1: You already speak German well. For example, you can talk about a book, a movie or a concert, or you can tell about a festivity that is important for you.
- B1.2: You already speak German very well. For example, you can talk about which technical device you would never want to miss and why, or you can talk about the advantages and disadvantages of something.
- Conversation Course: In this course you mainly practice speaking German. You can participate if you already speak at A2.2 level (or higher).
- LGBTQI+ course (A1): You are a queer person and want to learn German with other queer people in a protected room. To enroll, write us an email to: queer-dk@kub-berlin.org.

FAQ
- How long does a course last?
- The courses last 5 months. From mid-April to the end of September (summer semester) or from mid-October to the end of March (winter semester).
- Where do the courses take place?
- Normally, the courses are in Kreuzberg. You will get the exact address when you register.
- When and how often do the courses take place?
- Most of the courses are in the afternoon or evening. You can find the exact times in the course schedule (see above). Most courses take place twice a week, on two different days. Each lesson lasts two hours.
- Are the courses free of charge?
- Yes, all courses are free of charge. You do not have to pay anything.
- Are the courses at KuB official integration courses?
- No, we do not offer integration courses. But if you would like to attend an integration course, we can help you find one. Please come to the KuB during opening hours.
- Who can participate?
- Everyone can learn German with us. It does not matter which residency status you have. You have to be over the age of 18. We don't have so many places. Therefore, priority is given to people who are not able to attend other German courses. For example, because they are in precarious residence situations and because they do not have the money to pay for a course.
- When can I register for a course?
- You can register for a course in the summer semester from the middle of March. You can register for a course in the winter semester from the middle of September. However, places sometimes become available during the semester. It is therefore sometimes possible to register later.
- How can I register for a course?
- You have to register in person during the German course consultation hours. You need an appointment for the consultation hour. To make an appointment, send an email to: dk-anmeldungen@kub-berlin.org. Please also let us know your learning level (if possible). You can also come to the KuB during opening hours and make an appointment for the consultation hour.
- What happens in the German course consultation hours?
- During the consultation hour, we will check together which learning level you need and whether our courses are suitable for you. If there are places available, we will register you for the course. Or you will get advice on other German courses in Berlin.
- Can I get a language certificate?
- We do not offer exams. We can not hand out language certificates at the end of the courses. However, you can learn German with us and then take the exam elsewhere.
- You want to show that you speak German well for a job application or the job center?
- We can not give you an official document (language certificate) about your German skills. But we can write a letter for you (certificate of attendance) stating that you attend one of our courses.
